Foreign Language Education

Task 6) Personal Evaluation

When this semester started off, I wasn't sure what to expect of the course New Media in foreign language education but a good friend of mine told me that it is great fun so I was looking forward to it. My personal goals were to get to know interesting and new teaching ideas with the use of new media but also I wanted to learn something about internet security in general. As we had a look many of different tools, I did not knew beforehand, I was able to achieve my first goal. What I liked most about the webtools and the in class sessions that we tried every tool on our own. Afterwards I knew how to use the tool, the advantages and disadvantages. This face might by summarized under the methodology- learning by doing. Although we also discussed the issues of data security and how we can inform our students about the risks working with the internet I would have preferred it to hear this specific part of the lecturer, since she probably has a  better knowledge about this topic than all the students were able to think about or research within 20 minutes.
I also liked the decision that we had to create an e-portfolio although it was a good bit of work in the end. Underneath you can see the final slide of my pecha kucha presentation, that sums up the advantages of my e-portfolio but obviously can be generalized. However, I am really satisfied with the course and I think I can motivate my students and support their learning process with the use of new media. In conclusion I have to say that this class was very useful for my future career as a teacher and I am looking forward to try out some ideas myself.
